What you're actually paying for in a job tracker
Every tool in this comparison does three jobs, and the price differences come down to which of the three it does well.
Capture. Getting a posting into your system without retyping it. This is where extensions and autofill live, and it's the difference between a tracker you maintain and one that maintains itself.
Scoring. Deciding which applications deserve your best hours. Keyword matching, resume scoring, and match reports all exist to answer one question: should you tailor for this job or apply as-is?
Follow-through. Reminders, contacts, stage tracking, analytics. Applications die in the follow-up gap, not the apply step. If you'd rather run this part manually, we wrote up the routine in how to track job applications.
Hold each tool against those three jobs and the reviews below mostly write themselves.
Teal review
Teal is the biggest brand here and the free tier is useful: unlimited job tracking, unlimited resumes on 10 templates, top-5 keyword matches per job description, and a starter allowance of AI credits (10 resume bullets, 2 summaries, 2 cover letters). The resume builder is the standout. If you want to build a resume from scratch inside your tracker, Teal does that and we don't. Its extension also claims coverage of 40+ job boards, the widest capture net of any tool here.
Teal+ costs $29 a month, $13 a week, or $79 a quarter (about $26.33 a month) as of August 2026, per Teal's pricing page. The weekly option looks friendly, and the weekly billing model is the most complained-about thing in Teal reviews. Reviewers also call the AI output generic, say the keyword matcher pulls filler terms into its top-5 list, and describe the interface as crowded. The homepage's "100% free" framing has drawn criticism too, since the useful AI sits behind Teal+.
The fair read: best-in-class resume building, middling tracking, and a billing model you need to watch.
Huntr review
Huntr's free plan is generous in specific ways: up to 100 tracked jobs, unlimited contacts, unlimited autofills, unlimited base resumes with PDF export, plus 2 tailored resumes and 2 application packets. Unlimited free contacts is a real gift; no one else gives away a full networking CRM. Huntr also has the best mobile app in the category, and its autofill works.
Then there's the price. Huntr Pro is $40 a month billed monthly, the highest mainstream monthly rate in this comparison as of August 2026, per Huntr's pricing page. Quarterly drops it to $90 ($30 a month) and six months to $160 (about $26.66 a month). Reviewers report that AI credits don't roll over month to month, that cancellation involves friction, and that importing an existing resume into the builder works poorly, which keeps you inside Huntr's own builder. The 100-job free cap sounds high until a real search blows through it. We wrote a fuller breakdown in Huntr alternatives.
Teal vs Huntr in one paragraph
Teal for resume building, Huntr for autofill, mobile, and contacts. Teal's free tier has no job cap; Huntr's stops at 100. On paid plans Huntr costs $11 more per month than Teal, and both land around $26 to $27 effective if you commit for months. Neither is cheap, which is the opening we built into.
Simplify review
Simplify gives away the thing everyone else charges for: unlimited autofill across 100+ ATS platforms, free, plus a kanban tracker, job matches, and a basic resume builder. If your strategy is volume, nothing else touches it, and the free tier alone justifies an install.
The caution flags are real, though. Simplify+ pricing isn't published on the site; per third-party reviews it runs $19.99 a week, $39.99 a month, or $89.99 a quarter (about $30 a month) as of August 2026, with no free trial and no refunds after activation. Reviewers testing autofill accuracy report it drops off Greenhouse-style forms: roughly 70% on Workday, 50% on iCIMS, and 40% on Taleo, which means checking every field anyway on those platforms. A February 2026 privacy incident, in which support conversations were republished publicly, and reported 7 to 9 day support delays round out the concerns. And free unlimited autofill quietly pushes you toward spray-and-pray applying, which is a strategy question, not a software flaw, but worth naming.
Careerflow and Jobscan, briefly
Careerflow's distinctive feature is its LinkedIn profile optimizer, which nobody else in this comparison offers. The free plan tracks up to 10 jobs with 1 tailored resume; Premium is $23.99 a month as of August 2026, per third-party reviews, since the pricing page itself returned a 404 when we checked. Reviewers report bugs and lost work, and the 10-job cap makes the free tier a demo rather than a tool.
Jobscan is the ATS-scan specialist: the deepest match reports in the industry, a roughly 4.5 Trustpilot rating, and a free tier of 5 scans a month. Premium is $49.95 a month, the priciest here, or about $24.95 a month billed annually ($299.40 a year), with a Premium+ tier at $89.95 and a 2-week trial that needs no card, all as of August 2026. The tracker is a minor add-on, and reviewers flag recurring-billing complaints and a tight refund policy. If match scores are what you're after, we explain how they work, and how ours differs, in what's a good resume match score.
Where ClickRoles fits
We built ClickRoles around one bet: the tracker should be the product, not the upsell. The free plan has no job cap. Unlimited saved applications, one-click capture from 11 boards (LinkedIn, Indeed, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday, SmartRecruiters, Wellfound, Dice, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter), an AI resume match score from 0 to 100 on every saved job, and 5 AI actions a month. No card required.
Pro is $19.95 a month, cancel anytime, and it bundles everything the tools above sell separately: itemized keyword match reports, cover letter generation, outreach and follow-up emails, follow-up reminders and checklists, a contacts CRM, interview prep packs, pipeline analytics with weekly goals, and tailored ATS-safe resume export. That's less per month than any paid plan in this comparison, including every discounted committed rate; the closest competitor number in the table, Careerflow at $23.99 a month, still runs about $4 more.
One more thing we'd argue matters: our extension requests access to exactly those 11 boards plus clickroles.com, enforced by Chrome's permission model, rather than broad browsing access.
What ClickRoles doesn't do
No autofill. If you apply to dozens of jobs a week and retyping forms is your bottleneck, Simplify will serve you better. No full resume builder; our tailoring rewrites a resume you already have, it won't build one from nothing, so start with Teal if you need that. No LinkedIn optimizer, no mobile app, and 11 boards against Teal's claimed 40+. We'd rather you know that now than after signing up.
Which one should you pick
- You have fewer than 10 active applications and don't want another app: download the free spreadsheet instead.
- You apply in high volume and autofill is the bottleneck: Simplify, and its free tier may be all you need.
- You need to build a resume from scratch: Teal, but set a reminder if you take the weekly plan.
- You want mobile access and a free contacts CRM: Huntr's free plan, until the 100-job cap bites.
- Your LinkedIn profile is the weak point: Careerflow.
- You want the deepest possible ATS scan reports and will pay for them: Jobscan.
- You want tracking, AI matching, and follow-through in one plan at the lowest bundled price: that's us. Start free with unlimited saves and 5 AI actions a month, and see what Pro adds on the pricing section.
FAQ
Is Teal really free?
The free tier is real and has no job cap: unlimited tracking, unlimited resumes, and top-5 keyword matches per job description. The AI features are where the paywall sits; free users get small one-time credits, and ongoing AI use requires Teal+ at $29 a month (or $13 a week) as of August 2026.
When is Huntr's $40 a month worth paying?
If autofill, the mobile app, and the contacts CRM carry your workflow, yes, and the six-month plan cuts it to about $26.66 a month. If you mainly need tracking and match scoring, you're paying for features you won't use; see Huntr alternatives for cheaper routes.
What is the cheapest job application tracker with AI?
Among paid plans, ClickRoles Pro at $19.95 a month is the cheapest monthly rate in this comparison as of August 2026; the next-cheapest monthly is Careerflow at $23.99. If you don't want to pay at all, the ClickRoles free plan includes 5 AI actions a month with unlimited saved applications, and Jobscan's free tier gives 5 scans a month.
